What a fun filled weekend, filled with new experiences (I guess). Let's recap:
Friday: Went to the movies at South Keys to watch Annapolis with Cortnee and Danielle. I'm all about military-eske movies -- the drill, the discipline, and the sharp uniforms -- totally reminds me of cadets. Anyway, the movie didn't really turn out the way we had hoped for. There was too much boxing involved! And the movie was marketed as having an inside of look of what it takes to become a US Marine! Meh...it was more of how a guy joins the military to find who his identity, by boxing! People Magazine gave it 1/5 stars. I give 1.5. the extra .5 for some military things in it.
Saturday: The day finally arrived to see Alexis on TV. She was featured on L'Accent, a French television program that profiles different francophones that make a difference in their profession or up and coming artists. Anyway, it was a short little clip about her journey as a musician and showed her rehearsals and concert from the Saskatchewan Centenary concert series from last summer. It was pretty cool. (clip coming soon)
Right afterwards, while chatting on MSN, Alexis and I decided to go have lunch because we needed to get some fresh air and she wanted to leave campus. So I get to have lunch with a celebrity! Now how cool is that! Hahaha. She doesn't consider herself a celebrity, but I do! We went to a little pub in the market off of Dalhousie and Murray Streets called 'Chez Lucien'. The food there was awesome and the price was not too shabby. I couldn't finish my meal because the portions were huge! I had a grilled chicken sandwich with sun dried tomatoes, and a bunch of other stuff, fries, and a salad for $9! The service was a little slow (boo to that) but overall, I really liked that pub. It's what a pub should be. A place where you're able to have a conversation with someone else without having to talk really loudly. The ambience was what you picture a pub to be.
Sunday: Went to church in the morning but "skipped" Sunday School because I had to be home so that I could eat lunch, meet up with Cortnee, and be on time for the Ottawa 67s vs. Plymouth Whalers game! It was DND Appreciation Day so CFSU Ottawa got 40 tickets and we get two each if we signed up. Of course I signed up! I mean, it's hockey! And you get to see some future NHLers. Why not! Cort and I walked to Lansdowne Park (along the Rideau Canal) and it took about 40 minutes because we had to detour since there were puddles everywhere so we just decided to walk on the road of Queen Elizabeth Drive. On our way to the game, this is what the canal looked like:
It wasn't pretty at all. So much for Winterlude!Anyway, I haven't been to the Ottawa Civic Centre before so I wasn't too sure if the seats I got were good or not. Cortnee has been once, but she had the nosebleeds. Turns out we had awesome seats! Only 5 rows up from the ice! Hooray for work! I guess there are perks to working for the DND afterall. LOL. Speaking of perks, there's a DND Night (according to Capital Tickets) for a Senators game vs. Washington. If it's true and we get free (or discounted) tickets, put my name down! But this doesn't mean that I am turning into a Senators fan. No No...never in my lifetime. I will always stay True Blue and White and support them through thick and thin. It's just that with the opportunities I get through work, I need to take advantage of them!
Anyway, the game was a little lame in the first period. Not really a lot of action at both ends. But the game picked up in the second period and it included a fight, some goals, and lots and lots of penalties; some of the questionable. Seemed like the ref favoured Plymouth because he was calling everything against Ottawa including a diving penalty, when, clearly, the Plymouth player tripped him. By the third period, when the ref came out on the ice, everyone booed him. The game got a little intense in the third but there were less penalties. When Plymouth was up 4-1, most people started to leave. But the game got more exciting as the 67s scored a 2nd goal to make the game close and a few minutes later, a player hit the post! GAH! In the end, Plymouth won 4-2. It was a fun experience and I'm glad I went to the game. Cortnee also enjoyed herself. Afterwards, we
walked home.
In the evening, I watched the XL Super Bowl. It wasn't that exciting. Maybe because I'm more of a CFL fan than a NFL fan. Halftime was a major disappointment. Mick Jagger should not be waving his flabby old ragged arms and shaking his butt. And the NFL promoted halftime as "family" entertainment.
Well, that was the end of my weekend. I had a lot of fun!
