It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I've:

  • updated my blog
  • had any sort of fun
  • achieved A+ on an assignment/exam
Last time I updated my blog: July 7, 2006 -- and it was pointless too.

Had any sort of fun: I can't remember....and when I mean fun, I mean doing something that took my mind off of school. I think that was back in June when I played hockey for 2 straight Sundays.

Achieved A+ on an assignment/exam: I think you have to go back to 1st year when I pretty much raped the MUS1100 course...perfect on the mid-term and 90%+ on the final. Ended up with A+ in the course. Edit: hahaha...whooops, my bad. I got 91% on my criminology mid-term in the spring term.

OK, so the point is...I just got an assignment back from my POL3511 class (Organisations Internationales Universelles -- for those who can't read French, it means Universal International Organizations). Now, for the assignment, the prof asked us to pick a project or initiative that was implemented by any UN Agency/Department in the last 3 years. So, I picked the Small Arms Transparency and Control Regime in Africa (SATCRA). The assignment only demanded 3 pages maximum and is worth 30% of the final mark. We had to describe the context of why the project/initiative was created; the objectives of the project/initiative; and how the objectives will be met. Now that really calls for precise info and to the point. No babbling about non-sense. I wasn't expecting much from this assignment. It wasn't something I was really interested in. I just picked SATCRA because everything was pretty much laid out on its website. After a class, I went to the professor and asked if indeed, we are just supposed to summarize the project. He said 'yes'. I was a little confused as to why this teeny little thing was worth 30%. I thought I would be screwed.

I think in the end, I spent only about 4 hours on it -- researching, note-taking, writing rough draft, correcting, and editing. 4 hours on something that's worth 30%. Heh. I wasn't expecting much from it. If I got somewhere between 70-75%, I'd be happy. 75-80% is a shock. Anything above 80%, I'd start questioning the prof's sanity. So we got our assignments back today. I quickly returned to my seat and flipped to the last page. And there it was: 29/30. I had to look twice. I was in utter shock. I had to take a little walk (it was breaktime anyways) to contain my excitement. The only point taken off was because one of the objectives I presented weren't too clear. So yeah...I am beginning to question my prof's sanity. That piece of work did not deserve that mark. Hehe...for all the effort that I put into that, which was minimal, it should of only be like a 70%. Oh well. I'm not complaining! Our take-home final exam is based on this assignment, so it will really help me. Let's just hope I do well on this mid-term that will be on Tuesday.

Oh yeah...the presentation that happened on Tuesday, for my other class went well (I guess). I presented my stuff...and hopefully the prof enjoyed our presentation. I'd be happy with a 75% on that.

I guess I'll have fun on Saturday at the OCAC-wide picnic. Who could pass on free food? Not me, especially a university student living away from home. I'll bring my digicam and take pics......
