I’m writing this on MS Word while “trying” to listen to a panel presentation. Remember my previous post on how to do a presentation? Well, new point to add: Do not have any spelling mistakes on your PowerPoint slides. Hehehe. (immigrent? Resoursces?...SPELL CHECK!)
Anyway, weekend post! I had sooo much fun this weekend, thanks in large part to JC.
Saturday
Woke up early in the morning to work on my essay because I wanted to hang out with Cortnee, who came up to Ottawa with her new bf, to visit. She invited me to walk around downtown Ottawa with them, but I told her I wanted to finish typing up a first draft and edit it. I ended up agreeing to meeting up with them at the Museum of Civilization to watch an IMAX film. I’ve never been to the IMAX theatre at the museum, so I wanted to check it out since people tell me it’s awesome. I’ve been to other IMAX theatres in Toronto and Edmonton and I love IMAX films. After eating lunch and taking the OC Transpo over to Gatineau, I met up with them. Turns out Cort and Jeff already bought me a ticket because they were afraid it would be sold out. How sweet of them. The film we watched was called “Kilimanjaro”. It was about a team of hikers trying to conquer the mountain. We sat in the fourth row, so we had the seats that reclined back so we can watch the film that was projected on a dome-shaped screen. It was really cool, but tiring for the neck. Maybe next time, I’ll try to sit higher up. Hehehehe.
After the movie, we decided to walk back to Ontario. Gatineau and Ottawa are like two different worlds. On one side of the bridge, it’s such a different world; different language; different street lights; different atmosphere. On the other side, it feels more like “home”; of what I’m used to. I’ve never been to the non-touristy places of Gatineau so I cannot say whether it is a totally different world. But just by crossing the bridge, it feels different. We walked through the market and we headed our separate ways. I took a detour to the Loblaws on Rideau to pick up some food for dinner. I ended up purchasing the ‘Roasted BBQ Chicken’ meal deal where I got one whole roasted BBQ chicken, 2 basic Ziggy salads, and 1 large-sized potato wedges. The latter was supposed to be a medium-sized, but they recently changed it to a large-sized. Oye…soooo much food. The walk up King Edward and then to the Transitway took longer than I wanted to, maybe because I was carrying such heavy food! I only ate two drumsticks and a little bit of wedges and a bit of macaroni salad and I was stuffed already. Before leaving for fellowship, I had to “dissect” the chicken by taking out all of the meat in order to put them in containers. I ended up with two containers full of chicken and two containers stuffed with potato wedges. That meal is going to last me this entire week. Hehehe. But I gave a container of wedges away to Michelle, since her parents are up for the weekend and I guess I’ll be nice :P
Fellowship was okay. Another inductive Bible study with calFUN, as my leader. After fellowship, got invited out to eat with Leon, JC, Dom, Danny, and Chris. Oye. I was already stuffed from my dinner and said I wouldn’t eat but would just sit and chill with them. We ended up at Denny’s at South Keys. JC and I decided it wouldn’t be too good if we just sat there and didn’t order anything, so we ordered something small and decided to split it. Turns out the food we order was too much. Hahaha. So we had to take the rest home and split it again! Major itis…. Finally hopped into bed at around 1am?
Sunday
What a beautiful day! The weather was awesome for being outside. It was not hot or humid and there was a nice breeze. Everyone was saying it was perfect weather for hockey. I agreed, but I said I couldn’t play because I had to go home and finish my essay. Got invited out for dim-sum (or in Isaac’s words, ‘dim-suming’, which is the act to eat dim-sum) at Chu Sing. I was still feeling the itis from last night so I didn’t really want to eat. But I ate anyways. Haha. Just not too much. Eating dim-sum in Ottawa is so different. Just by walking into the restaurant, it was already a different atmosphere. There were more “gwai los” than Asians! Haha. I’ve never seen that in my life before! We didn’t know how to order but thanks to Dan Teo and JC, we managed to get some food. Hehehe. Ended up being quite pricey. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten soo little at dim-sum but paid so much. Let’s just say, in Toronto, I could be stuffed and pay less amount of money (and for better food too). Hehe. Oh well, it’s an experience.
After lunch, Anna, JC, and I went to Kowloon Market to pick up some groceries. Then JC asked whether or not I was going to play hockey. I said no, because I had to work on my essay. She said she wasn’t going till 3pm when Leon and Danny would pick her up. She convinced me to work hard for two hours on the essay and she would help me edit it so I could go play hockey, since everyone wants me to play (especially Mil!). I said fine, but I would have to go to her apartment to work, because I would be too distracted if I stayed at home. We went to my apartment and gathered all my stuff and headed over to her place. The plan was to finish typing up the essay and print it off and edit it once before heading out. Turns out we couldn’t figure out how to add her printer to my computer so we had to USB key-it. We ended up not having time to edit it at her place so it was “on-the-go” thing. Since Leon and Danny had to change, we headed to Leon’s house and JC did some editing there.
I surprised most people by showing up to hockey! Hehehe. I wasn’t going to play as hard as usual because I knew that if I did play very hard, I would be too tired to work on my essay afterwards. So I kinda took it easy. JC and I decided that I would play first while she edited and when she was done, I would look over it and she would play. She ended up editing the entire thing, played a bit and left to play with Tristan, one of our player’s sons. Hahaha. Then Benita and Mil had to leave, so one team was less a goalie. I decided to strap on the pads and be the goalie. Turned out to be the greatest idea ever.
Made some really good saves and stymied Channers over and over again. Hahaha. I even made a “Patrick Roy” styled save with my quick glove hand! And I wasn’t even paying attention to the play. Haha. All I saw was the orange ball coming my way, stuck my glove out and caught it! Hahaha. On the other end, was Danny. The Tank. THE goalie. He basically stops everything that comes his way. But this day, he was letting in goals, left, right, and centre. And me, I was stopping them. Hahaha. I showed up Danny (guess you could say so). JC played a few shifts on defence and played really well too! Quite impressed from her play, although she hasn’t played in a few years! In the end, I think I’m going to play goalie in r/fhockey…maybe invest in a good blocker and glove? Hahaha…and, I need a goalie nickname. NL called me “Olie the Goalie” on our way home, but my name is not even remotely close to Olaf or an Olie! Hahaha. Any suggestions?
Well, I went home, ate dinner and finished correcting the edits. Sent another copy to JC and she helped me do a final edit. I finished the corrections Monday morning and handed it in. Wooooooot.
And so, that was my weekend. This upcoming weekend will be fun too. I’ll be hiking in Gatineau Park with Elijah Fellowship and possible…and I mean possible r/fhockey on Sunday. Final word on hockey on Friday. I CALL GOALIE! Who wants to draft me this time?! Hahah. I need a picture of me as goalie, standing beside Danny. And so you can see the size difference.

hahaha....you did well but you didn't show me up. :P Most of the goals were breakaway goals on me too and Jeff scored most of the goals. If Jeff is on my team, then it would be a totally different story. hahaha
My goalie game is Gerber. hahaha...you can be......I don't know.....just name a goalie that you currently look up to.
I won't be playing this coming week as I'll be at MS camp. Train hard and we'll have a goalie competition sometimes. We need to do shootouts!!!
She can be Miller or Ward or Huet...only good for that one season...HAHAHA...we'll see how you do. :P And yes, shootouts! I'm in for that!
Channers done for the year??? Boooo
haha!! What's wrong with Olie the Goalie? =D
(he used to be good back in the day and then just started sucking like there's no tomorrow!! haha! =P)
... and you didn't show Gerber up...!! Gerber still made a bucket load more saves than you! =P
Considering yourself lucky to have an all-STAR squad in front of you this week with me, Leon, Dan and Norris Trophy winner, Jeff! haha! =)
Good times though!! ^_^
