While away from my home church (Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church), I still like to keep up with the news and happenings about the congregation and the church itself. It's amazing to read some of the things that has been happening -- some good, some bad; some happy, some sad. However, for the past few years, a lot of focus has been placed on the New SCBC. As we have steadily outgrown our current location, there has been talk for a long time that we acquire bigger land to build a bigger church. Well, it's been almost two years since we've acquired the land. And construction has been going pretty well (from what I hear/read); although it's been delayed a few times due to costs and things beyond our control.
For the past couple of weeks, there's been talk of a moving-in date, but no definite date. But from the pictures that I've seen so far, the church looks amazing. Very modern and not your typical box. Of course, a large sum of money has been spent on this project, but God has truly provided us with everything that we have needed. There has been growing anticipation for a move in May and I hope the next time I return to Toronto, it will be at the new location.
For those who are curious who the architects are: Teeple Architects -- they've designed some buildings at U of T and York as well. If you want to see the design of the church, click on Portfolio - Institutional - Chinese Baptist Church

Hrmm...I drove past it last time I was in TO. It kinda looks odd. I don't know, the design of the building doesn't really do it for me. haha...it's also kinda hidden behind trees? I'll come visit when you move in! It'll be much closer than where SCBC is now. haha...it's close to SCAC too, so I can swing by afterwards or something and go for lunch. haha
after umpteen billion hours waiting for the architect page to load, i read the meaning behind some of the design...pretty cool stuff! I particularly like the wireless audio system setup! hahaha...
