Naaaaaaallllllgene

A couple of weeks ago, I said goodbye to two faithful bottles: MEC Nalgene and Lil' Nalgene. For several months now, there have been numerous reports (Google search) that the material used to manufacture those bottles -- polycarbonate plastic -- can cause cancer. Yikes. Anyway, when I first heard those reports, I pretty much ignored it and used more caution when using my bottle, such as frequent and daily rinses. When Mountain Equipment Co-op decided to pull the bottles off their shelves as a temporary measure until it has been solidly proven by the Canadian federal government that the material is risky for consumers, they sent an e-mail to its members. Again, I simply skimmed through the message, even though they said consumers who bought their bottles at MEC could return them for a full refund. Meh. I received that e-mail during the time when I was freaking out about the number of exams and research papers I had to complete and didn't have the time to travel to Westboro, so I ignored it.

When I moved back to Toronto, I continued to used Lil' Nalgene, but then my brother said that maybe it would be best if I went down to MEC to return it. So I finally reluctantly let go of it. But what would I use then? Nalgenes are so reliable and durable. I bring it everywhere and anywhere. Water bottles are simply not the same. So with my abundant time on my hands, I did a little research and apparently, the bottle made out of HDPE is safer. How much safer? I cannot tell you. Only time will tell when this bottle might be recalled as well. So I went down to MEC, refunded MEC Nalgene and Lil' Nalgene and picked up the HDPE Nalgene, which I will affectionately call Lil' Nalgene II (like Snowball II...heheh). They didn't have the 1L HDPE White Nalgene in stock, so I'll have to wait a bit.

Less than 2 weeks till HK and China! I'm trying to set up a travel blog at the moment...either on Blogger or on Google Pages. Can't figure out which one is best and better suited for my blogging needs.
