Things have been settling in nicely for me in terms of readjusting to life in Ottawa. Work has steadily been improving, with more work coming along to me as I reacquaint myself with the files and the happenings within our group. I was introduced this week to something that I had always wondered about: a learning plan.
While I was at DND, each member had a learning plan and it was strictly enforced, since there were constant emails sent to employees about future training opportunities and what courses each member (civilian or military) had to complete. We also knew who our training coordinator(s) was, as each group or unit had their own. When I moved to Service Canada, learning plans were no where to be found or heard of. I had no clue who my training coordinator was and I even missed the orientation session for students. I thought learning plans were very individualized at Service Canada -- you go look for courses you need to take and make sure you complete them.
At this week's team meeting, my director was talking about learning plans for each person. I was shocked to hear that we had one! Then he looked at me and said that I should begin one, the first items being the orientation sessions for new employees. Schweet. 2 days of internal "training" and then once that's done, I can move on to the public service training sessions! So I' quite excited about having my own learning plan and developmental goals I want to achieve.
Aside from work, I've been busy just organizing my photos from my trip and developing them. They should arrive in the next couple of days and I'm excited to show them off and recount my experiences! YAH!!!!
I've also been hanging out with my friends almost every weekend! From hockey, to shopping trips, to restaurants, things have been very exciting on the extracurricular part! And with the summer coming up very soon (let's just hope this weather gets warmer), people will have more free time! I also joined a cell group at church. So far, it's been okay. We've just been doing BS the past two weeks. I was the only girl (aside from one of the co-leaders) in the group so it was kind of awkward. But I hope the other girls come out in the coming weeks. I'm actually eager to get back to drumming now that I'm back at OCAC. I hope I will get a chance to just jam this summer.
Had my first taste of the burgers from The Works. Pretty tasty and would return another time to try another flavour. There are over 40 different varieties of burgers with your choice of chicken breast, beef patty, vegetarian patty, and the elk patty. Ooo...Elk. Hahahaha.
