Yes that's right....curling. Add that sport to my reparatoire of sports that I've played. Went to the Nepean Sportsplex and played for two hours with a bunch of people from OCAC. It was a lot of fun. At first, I couldn't get a hang of "throwing" the rock, but I got the hang of it in the end. Sweeping is more difficult than it seems! There were a few falls and trips here and there because you're trying to sweep while also trying to slide along and catch up with the rock. But I like sweeping better than throwing the rock because that part is really difficult. If you throw it too hard, it won't land in the house. If you throw it too light, it won't land in the house (and your sweepers will be sweeping like mad). ARGH. The sheet of ice was a little crappy because the rock kept going to the right, even when you wanted it to stay in the middle. But all in all, I have a new found respect for curling. It's hard!
There were a few first-time curlers there, including Anna and I. It was all thanks to Anna that we get the chance to curl because she thinks the sport is "patriotic". LOL. cute. I guess she doesn't get these opportunities back on the West Coast, so she's going to take advantage of us here. LOL. To remember the moment, Anna requested a group picture:
From left to right...
Top row: Mike, Matthew, Aaron, Anna, Leon, Danny, Garvin
Bottom row: Jason, Calvin, Lydia
Missing: Stephanie (went to get first aid), Wendy (taking picture), Dominic (taking picture)
After curling, we went to Local Heroes for dinner. I ordered a Canadian Burger (massive!) which included fries and a coleslaw. I managed to eat everything. I usually have to take the fries home but I finished everything. Of course, during Elijah, I suffered from itis.... Anna and Leon ordered a plate called "The Whole Farm Platter". It consisted of: 2 lbs of wings, 2 lbs of beef ribs, and 2 lbs of pork ribs and fries, pickles, and coleslaw. It was Anna's first time at Locals and it's tradition (I think) that all rookies at Locals have to try their ribs and wings. Anyway, the waitress, who was a friend of Leon's, made a bet with them that if they finished everything on that platter, she would give them $10, but the rest of us at the table could not help them. In the end, they finished all of the meat but couldn't eat the fries or coleslaw. Even though they didn't win $10, they, especially Anna, impressed Danny and Dom (who are big eaters, especially Danny!). Looks like Danny's going to have real competition when it comes to a meat-eating contest! LOL. I should of taken a picture of the platter. It was humungous! But props to Anna and Leon. Really, I would of vomitted if I had to eat that much. I can barely finish a burger platter. LOL.
After dinner, the young-ones went to Elijah. It was our final Bible study and just wrapping everything we learned this past year about Peter and how we could apply it to our lives. Our final activity was to take the list of spiritual gifts and write one or two of them down about the others in our group. It was really interesting to see what gifts people thought I had!
After fellowship, went straight home and then to bed. itis................
