Work Musings

If I wrote this post yesterday, it would have been exactly one month left until I leave DND, perhaps forever. However, this will not be the case. On Tuesday, my boss asked me if I would be interested in working a few hours next term. As I mentioned in a previous post, the office will not be getting a co-op student; therefore, they would lose a set of hands and brain and make the office run smoothly without my bosses having to run around with their heads cut off. So, Anick from the co-op office suggested that they hire me on a part-time basis. I guess my bosses wanted to make the timing correct so on Tuesday was when I officially received notice. I knew about this offer since the end of October when Anick told me, but I wanted to keep it hush hush.
I had mulled over the job offer since then, by looking at my schedule and praying to God. Really PTL for giving me this opportunity. Who knew that when I came in in January, they would invite me back for September and then keep me as a part-time employee? Things really do work out when you pray hard, right Calazula? :) Anyhoo, I officially accepted the offer yesterday and barring from any HR fiascos (process of re-hiring should get started soon), I will once again be a DND employee and keep my @forces.gc.ca account for at least 4 months. Hooray. And I'll also be getting some money to help pay for groceries and stuff. Awesomeness. And my bosses have been kind enough to tell me that they will be quite flexible in how my hours go, especially during exam period and whenever I need time to study.

In general, work has been going really well. I'm developing good working relationships with people that I am always in contact with, especially since I am in charge of training. Call me the "training coordinator/officer" or simply "co-op student", but I love the fact that my bosses give me the duty of handling all training-related matters for the General Safety Program (GSP) in the NCR. People are really kind to me, which is always good. I know when I leave DND, tears will flow.....................ok, let's not think about that at this moment. Still got some time to go!

And since my workstation/cubicle is located across from the lunch room/main corridor, I always hear random things (and a little bit of gossip too -- some woman's 21 year old son is marrying a 28 year old woman and she approves of this!). Anyway, as two people walked by, the following conversation happened:

"You know, for some postings, there are screening-tests. Like if you go to Goose Bay or Iqaluit or some boonie town"
"Hahaha, of course. Or else you'll have a mental breakdown, take a shot gun and shoot people, even polar bears"

Ok...so I guess it's not too funny, but it was just....random, especially the polar bear part.

Well, I'm on course Monday so no work for me! I'm being trained to do workplace inspections; although, I have already completed 3.
