I haven't really posted anything fun in the past little while, so I guess I should do that.
Friday night, about 11 of us went out to Al's Steakhouse to celebrate Leon's 22nd birthday. It was an awesome time of chilling and lots of inside jokes (big boy). Hehehe. The food was okay, but I've had better. I ordered a green pepper steak with a side of potato. It also came with rice. I could of made that plate myself. Anyway, we stayed at the restaurant till almost 11pm. They even turned off the music, which was, in my opinion, a mix of cherry Christmas music, mellow Christmas music, 80's music, and 90's music. It was not a good mix, for such a "nice" restaurant. Hahaha. Even Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott (K-Fed Jr.) went to that restaurant to eat. There was a picture of them in the waiting area.
Since it was a little early, Leon wanted to do something. So after much debating, we all headed out for some cosmic rock n'roll bowling at Merivale Bowling. We arrived a little late and only had time for 1 game. Oh well. I didn't play that well. Came in last place in my lane...Danny beat me by one point.
I slept in till about 10am on Saturday morning, since I didn't get home till 12:30am from bowling. Couch potatoed a bit in the morning and then headed out to the Student Ministry Christmas Party/Food Bank event. I arrived at 4pm, as instructed. Turns out I was the only university student there. The rest of the people were from Mustard Seeds and Jeremiah. Elijah Represent yo! I felt kinda old (and lonely...since everyone who said they were coming bailed out at the last minute because of studying). Anyway, dinner was at 4:30pm (quite early!) since the bus was coming at 5:00pm to pick us up to go to the bus depot to help unload the donated food for the food bank.
As we were about to get on the bus, Lucy showed up! I was soooooooooooo happy to see her. Hehehe. At least now I didn't feel so left out. We arrived at some random bus depot in the middle of nowhere and waited a bit for the buses to arrive. I think Lucy and I were caught on Rogers Television. OCAC was the only large group there, while there were some random people there to help out as well. While we were waiting for the buses, Leon arrived! Whoo hooo!
Then the buses started to arrive. Oh my...lots of food to unload. There was a lot of KD...mmmm. Some people also donated clementines and since they were perishable food items, the food bank people decided to let us eat them. Hehehe. Anyway, unloading the food was hardwork, but the younger kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Lucy and I kinda just stood at the bins and made sure everything was neatly piled, but we helped out too! In the end, we ran out of crates/bins to put the food in so the food bank people had to put some boxes together so that we could get the food off the buses. One of the ladies who works for the food bank said that they have seen an increase in donations this year. Let's hope all the needy people in Ottawa get a good Christmas dinner and the portions they need to feed their family.
After spending almost 2 hours at the depot, we returned to the church for some fun and games. First came the gift exchange. I gave away a stainless steel coffee mug that I got from work and the first person who got it liked it. But the next person liked it as well and stole it from him! Hahaha. That was funny because he already had his green tea stolen from another girl. I forgot what he had to settle for. Although I didn't want a gift in exchange, I was coerciced into opening one and I got a notebook. After the gift exchange, it was time for some fun. With the people sitting at our table, we had to make either a snowman or a Christmas tree, with the limited supplies handed out.
First, our table decided to do a snowman, but when we started decorating, we ended up deciding to do a Christmas tree. This is how it turned out:
Although we lost to the dancing/singing snowman, it was quite fun and a very satisfying evening.
On Sunday, I woke up extra early in order to catch an earlier bus so that I may get to church on time and get a good seat. Why? Because it was Baptismal Sunday and two of acquaintances of mine were getting baptized. It's been awhile since I've known someone getting baptized, ever since my group of friends at SCBC got baptized in 2001 and 2002. It was really good to see and hear their public testimony. It's great to know that God does miraculous things to people's lives and to open up their eyes and hearts to the wonders of the world.
After lunch at Mee Xim, I decided to head out to Bayshore, hoping to get some Christmas cards and gifts. I only managed to accomplish one of those tasks, which was to purchase something from Mrs. Tiggy Winkles (Rideau Centre was out of stock). There was too many people and I was not in the mood of pushing myself through crowds of people who are already stressed out. So I decided to leave and head to South Keys, hoping to get something at Michael's. Then I decided against that and went to Loblaws to pick up a few things. Urgh...note to self: never grocery shop (when you're in a hurry) on a Sunday afternoon, especially at a Loblaws that is located in a residential neighbourhood. Ahhh...too many people and too many people who do not know how to navigate the aisles with shopping carts. Instead of waiting in line for the cashier, I decided to do a self-scan (although I always have problems with those machines). Turned out I checked myself out faster than people waiting in line.
Oye....then I went home all exhausted from the walking, made dinner, and watched the Amazing Race. Hooray for Tyler and James who won! I wanted either them or Dustin and Kandice (the beauty queens) to win, but Dustin and Kandice were eliminated in Barcelona.
This upcoming weekend will be my last one before I head home to Toronto. ESM Christmas Party on Saturday!
Oh yeah...work's going by quite quickly....can't believe I'm almost done my third work-term. I'm already partially finished my work-term report because I'm using the same introductory paragraphs (with some minor changes). I really only need to write out the major projects I was involved in this time and do an analysis. Other than that, I'm done.
